The resident population in the municipality of Santarém grew 14.7% in the last four years, according to the most recent official series from the National Statistics Institute. The region reached 69,392 inhabitants in 2025, having recorded 8,912 more residents compared to 2021.

The population growth represents a significant milestone for the municipality, which saw its population increase substantially in a relatively short period. The INE data confirms this trend of sustained growth in the region.

The mayor of Santarém, João Leite, commented on the population data, underscoring the importance of this growth for the municipality. In a statement, the mayor highlighted the positive performance in demographic terms.

Santarém, as a city in the Ribatejo region, thus consolidates its position as one of the urban centers in the country with the highest recent demographic growth, according to the official data presented by the National Statistics Institute.
