In the afternoon of yesterday, 34 young people from the Metropolitan Volunteering Academy participated in a volunteering action in Maia, an initiative promoted by the Metropolitan Area of Porto. The activities focused on environmental sustainability and civic participation, highlighting the importance of caring for the environment.
The Councilor for Youth, Susana Junqueira Neto, received the participants at the Parish Council of Nogueira e Silva Escura, where a plogging activity took place. This method combines walking with waste collection, allowing them to collect about 600 kg of garbage, including tires, asphalt membrane, and other abandoned materials.
After the activity, the young people were honored at a ceremony at the Hilton Hotel, in Gaia, a city that is currently recognized as the Portuguese Capital of Volunteering. Maia is preparing to be the European Capital of Volunteering in 2026, reaffirming its commitment to promoting opportunities that connect young people with the practice of volunteering.
Photos of the event were captured by Christian Baes, recording the moments of dedication of the participants. The information was published by the Maia Municipal Council.
