A fire broke out yesterday afternoon, at 4:16 PM, at a nursing home in Darque, Viana do Castelo. The fire was quickly extinguished at 4:49 PM, with no injuries among the staff and residents of the nursing home of the Parish Center for Social and Cultural Promotion of Darque. The fire is believed to have started on a tarpaulin from construction work underway in the building.
The elderly from the nursing home were promptly welcomed at the nursery located next to the building. Councilor Fabíola Oliveira highlighted the promptness with which the home acted after the alert, noting that the institution made good use of the teachings from the drills carried out.
According to the councilor, around 8:10 PM, all the elderly were already settled for the night, totaling 33 residents from the nursing home and 42 from continuing care. They were expected to return to their usual facilities today.
