Hugo, a Shire horse living in Towcester, in the county of Northamptonshire, in England, reached 1.99 meters in height at four years old and had the measurement officially confirmed by Guinness World Records as the tallest living animal of the species. The measurement was taken by a veterinarian, without horseshoes, with the height measured to the withers, the area located at the base of the neck.
The animal belongs to owner Lisa Masters, who told the BBC that when Hugo was acquired at 18 months, the owners didn't imagine he would reach such an unusual stature. At the time, according to her, she didn't know the horse was "very tall, abnormally tall."
Lisa estimates that Hugo still has approximately three years of growth ahead and may surpass his own recorded mark. The horse is still developing and, according to the owner, there is still potential for him to become even taller than he already is.
