Gas price increase may boost global coal demand

The International Energy Agency forecasts a 1.2% increase in global coal demand in 2026, with the total reaching 8.94 billion tonnes.

This growth in coal demand comes in a context of rising natural gas prices.

Global coal demand is thus being driven by rising gas prices, making coal a more competitive alternative for many countries.

The International Energy Agency report highlights that coal continues to be an important energy source globally, especially when compared to more expensive alternatives.

Grupo Concentra joins Ascentiel to create insurance brokerage leader on the Iberian Peninsula

Grupo Concentra will integrate with French company Ascentiel Groupe to create an insurance brokerage leader on the Iberian Peninsula, in an operation that represents Ascentiel's largest acquisition to date. The transaction, subject to approval from regulatory authorities in Spain, Portugal, and the United Kingdom, will enable the Iberian business to achieve revenues of approximately 62 million euros and have around 370 employees, while the global group is expected to exceed 150 million euros in 2026. BlackFin Capital Partners is selling its majority stake, but the founder and management team of Grupo Concentra will reinvest and retain leadership, with Javier López-Linares continuing as chief executive. Concentra will operate under its current brands, with no changes for clients, brokers, or employees.

Taxis can now operate as Uber and Bolt. What changed?

Since September 1, 2026, taxis in Portugal can operate through the TVDE regime, used by platforms like Uber and Bolt, thanks to Law No. 59/2026. This legislation allows operators and licensed vehicles as taxis to also provide TVDE services, as long as they meet the licensing requirements. Although the same vehicle can be enabled for both regimes, it cannot simultaneously benefit from the advantages of each one — when working as TVDE, it cannot pick up passengers on the street or use taxi ranks. The law also simplifies the process for taxi drivers to obtain TVDE certification and introduces new rules, such as non-removable identification badges, possibility of video recording for security (with consent), and the elimination of the maximum cap for dynamic pricing. The new pricing rules for traditional taxis take effect in October 2026.
