Portuguese Chamber of Minas Gerais Reinforces Presence in Portugal During Celebrations of "Brazil's Independence" in Lisbon

The Portuguese Chamber of Commerce in Brazil – Minas Gerais (CPCBMG) was represented by Arthur Andrade at the celebrations of the 204th anniversary of Brazil's Independence, held in Lisbon on September 7th, at the Official Residence of Ambassador Raimundo Carreiro and Ambassadress Maria José de Ávila. The event, which took place between 6 PM and 8 PM, brought together Portuguese and Brazilian authorities, representatives of the diplomatic corps, and members of the Luso-Brazilian community, including former Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. The program included the performance of the national anthems by the Navy Band and a speech by the ambassador.

Arthur Andrade highlighted the institution's role in bringing together businesses and institutions from Minas Gerais and Portugal, stating that the chamber has been observing an increase in interest in commercial relations and investments between the Brazilian state and Portugal. In this context, Andrade pointed to the provisional application, since May 1st, 2026, of the Agreement on Trade between the European Union and Mercosur, which implemented measures such as tariff reductions and market opening.

The CPCBMG representation in Portugal is completing one year in the second half of 2026, in a phase of expansion that includes increasing the entity's visibility, creating new institutional relationships, and formalizing cooperation agreements. The chamber, founded in 1996, promoted in April 2026 the "1st Conference on Tourism and Business of Minas Gerais" in Lisbon, in partnership with the Casa da América Latina, aimed at bringing companies and investors from both markets closer together.

In parallel, the institution annually holds the "Dinner of the Seventh," an initiative created to commemorate September 7th in Minas Gerais, which in 2026 corresponded to its eighth edition. Minas Gerais registered an estimated Gross Domestic Product of 1.157 trillion reais in 2025, with real growth of 1.4% compared to 2024.

Taxis can now operate as Uber and Bolt. What changed?

Since September 1, 2026, taxis in Portugal can operate through the TVDE regime, used by platforms like Uber and Bolt, thanks to Law No. 59/2026. This legislation allows operators and licensed vehicles as taxis to also provide TVDE services, as long as they meet the licensing requirements. Although the same vehicle can be enabled for both regimes, it cannot simultaneously benefit from the advantages of each one — when working as TVDE, it cannot pick up passengers on the street or use taxi ranks. The law also simplifies the process for taxi drivers to obtain TVDE certification and introduces new rules, such as non-removable identification badges, possibility of video recording for security (with consent), and the elimination of the maximum cap for dynamic pricing. The new pricing rules for traditional taxis take effect in October 2026.
