A video recorded accidentally shows municipal police officers in Carcassonne, in southern France, making racist, homophobic and sexist comments while on duty. The recording, revealed by the newspaper Midi Libre, is a five-minute excerpt from an involuntary recording of approximately six hours made in November 2025. The video shows a team of four officers, whose patrol leader is affiliated with Marine Le Pen's party, Rassemblement National, and is the author of most of the hateful comments.
The images reveal that the officers used derogatory terms such as "little darkies," compared migrants to animals, and spoke of "putting Macron and all the queers in the dock." They also used sexist insults against women and supported conspiracy theories, such as the one that First Lady Brigitte Macron would be a trans person. The Public Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation into the recording.
The Rassemblement National party condemned the incidents and announced the exclusion of the patrol leader, as well as his expulsion from the party's security service. The Interior Minister, Laurent Nuñez, requested an inspection of the municipal police of Carcassonne. The local mayor, Christophe Barthès, assured that all those involved have been suspended and that sanctions proportional to the gravity of the facts will be applied.
The Minister for Equality, Aurore Bergé, described the comments as "absolutely unacceptable" and stated that they constitute a crime. Former Prime Minister Gabriel Attal criticized harshly, saying that "this is what France governed by the RN would look like," with "uninhibited and fomented hatred, even where justice and security are expected."
