Schools can now hire teachers every day

ZAP Notícias10 September 2026 at 10:30

The Council of Ministers approved the final version of the new competitive placement model for teachers, which will allow schools to hire teachers every day. The announcement was made by the Minister of Education, Fernando Alexandre, at the end of the Council of Ministers meeting.

The new model takes effect in the 2027/2028 school year and aims to drastically reduce the time students are without classes due to lack of teachers.

Starting next week, recruitment reserves will be daily, which means schools will be able to look for teachers to replace those who are absent with greater frequency and agility.

Fernando Alexandre highlighted that this change represents a significant shift in the way teachers are placed in schools, allowing a more immediate response to the needs of educational institutions.

CDS defends reduction of IRC in Madeira to 12.6%

The CDS-PP of Madeira defends the reduction of IRC in the Region to 12.6% in 2027, following the foreseeable decrease of one percentage point in the rate on the mainland. Currently, IRC is 19% on the mainland and 13.3% in Madeira, with a special rate of 8.75% in the northern municipalities of the island and in Porto Santo. The party considers that the planned reduction for the Republic creates conditions to "harmonize" the rates in the Region.
