José Sócrates, former prime minister, returned to court to resume his intervention in the Operation Marquês trial, exactly one year after requesting a ten-day pause to prepare responses regarding events after 2011. The request for the interruption was made on September 10, 2025.

The pause occurred after nine consecutive sessions of statements, during which Sócrates addressed various topics related to the case. The former government official described the sessions as "a physical violence," although he ensured he was not refusing to speak.

The Operation Marquês trial involves José Sócrates and several dozen defendants, in a case investigating alleged crimes of corruption, tax fraud, and money laundering. The resumption of hearings marks another phase in a process that has dragged on for several years.
