The 16th edition of Flup (Literary Festival of the Peripheries) will be held from September 23 to 27 at Teatro Carlos Gomes and Praça Tiradentes, in downtown Rio de Janeiro, with free admission. This year's program features the theme "The Daughters of the Daughters of the Daughters," celebrating the strength and wisdom of women in preserving memory, faith, culture, and Black religiosity.
The festival's opening will be led by the matriarchs of Candomblé in Rio, who will perform a ceremony dedicated to the Orixás with reverences and axé salutations. Before each Flup session, an Ìyálórìṣà (Yalorixá) will take the stage to greet the audience and guests, conducting approximately ten minutes of opening with stories of resistance and knowledge passed down from generation to generation.
Among the program highlights are singer Gilberto Gil and rapper Duquesa. The festival brings together literature, ancestry, and religiosity, highlighting female presence and the role of women in maintaining Black cultural traditions.
