The European Central Bank is pressuring Angola regarding banking supervision criteria. According to the news, the National Bank of Angola does not feel comfortable with this situation.
The Finance minister of Angola says she understands and respects the ECB's position, which considers that Angolan banking supervision criteria are not aligned with what is expected in Europe.
However, the Angolan official considers that this understanding does not block a possible strengthening of Sonangol's stake in BCP (Banco Comercial Português), suggesting that the operation may proceed regardless of European pressure.
Sonangol is one of the main shareholders of BCP, a Portuguese bank that also operates in Angola, which explains the relevance of this issue for the financial relations between Angola and Europe.
