TAP considered that aviation underwent a profound transformation after the September 11, 2001 attacks. This assessment was made in the context of the significant changes the sector has faced since that date.

Rise in gas prices may increase global coal demand, Energy Agency indicates

The International Energy Agency indicated that global coal demand will grow 1.2% in 2026, reaching 8.94 billion tonnes, an unexpected increase compared to previous forecasts. The main cause is the worsening of natural gas prices, driven by disruptions in liquefied natural gas transport through the Strait of Hormuz, due to the conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran. The rise in gas prices is favouring greater use of coal for electricity production in countries with both gas and coal power plants, such as Europe, Japan, South Korea and China. The IEA warned that much depends on the recovery of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, forecasting that the situation could extend until 2027. Simultaneously, coal production is expected to fall in 2026 due to safety inspections in China following a mine accident, which, combined with higher-than-expected international demand, is putting pressure on coal prices worldwide.
