A 69-year-old man died on Wednesday, September 9, in Jugueiros, Felgueiras, after being stung by an Asian wasp. The incident occurred during the grape harvest, the grape picking season, which gave rise to the title referring to a tragedy during the grape harvest.
The victim was stung by the Asian wasp, an invasive species that has been spreading across Portugal and represents a growing danger to the population. Stings from this wasp can cause severe allergic reactions and, in some cases, death, especially in older people or those with pre-existing health conditions.
The 69-year-old man did not survive the Asian wasp attack, having died at the scene of the incident. The authorities were alerted to the occurrence and took charge of the situation after the victim's death.
