Low incomes are the main cause of precariousness for 75% of Portuguese people, according to data from the 20th edition of the Barometer on poverty and economic precariousness. This study is promoted by the French association Secours Populaire Français and reveals that insufficient income is, by far, the main reason cited by Europeans living in precarious situations.
The article indicates that three in 10 Europeans live with financial difficulties. This reality of insufficient wages is not limited to Portugal, being also dominant in countries such as Romania and France, which demonstrates that precariousness due to low incomes is a cross-cutting problem across several Member States of the European Union.
The barometer, in its 20th edition, thus highlights the magnitude of the problem of low incomes as a determining factor of economic precariousness throughout the European continent, affecting a significant portion of the population.
