The ban on mobile phones in Portuguese schools is to be expanded during the current school year. The restriction, which was already in force for students up to 6th grade, will now be extended to 9th grade.
This measure applies to the use of mobile phones on school premises and aims to reduce distractions during learning activities.
Many schools had already adopted the ban voluntarily during the previous school year. Furthermore, some educational institutions decided to go further and prohibit the use of mobile phones in secondary education as well.
This expansion of the restriction comes in a context of growing concern about the impact of electronic devices on academic performance and student concentration.
