President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated during a rally in Teresina on Wednesday that American Donald Trump should not meddle in the Brazilian election. The Workers' Party member said Americans should not try to influence the country's elections, adding that if they try to meddle, they will be defeated.

Lula declared that this year's electoral race will define whether there will be democracy in Brazil. He criticized possible attempts at foreign interference and stated that Brazilians are poor, but proud, and that character and dignity cannot be bought.

During the rally, Lula mentioned the PT candidate for governor of Piauí, Rafael Fonteles, the current governor of the state, to highlight that democracy's future is at stake in the election. The president made references to Americans' ability to intervene in the political processes of other countries.
