Junkyards are shut down for irregular parts trade in Saquarema

oglobo9 September 2026 at 21:49

Two junkyards located in Saquarema, in the Região dos Lagos area, were shut down this Wednesday during Operation Desmonte, coordinated by Detran RJ in cooperation with the Military Police and the State Environmental Institute (Inea). The action closed the establishments that sold irregular parts in the district of Vilatur and in the neighborhood of Bicuíba.

Among the illegal items seized, there was an engine with erased numbers, a criminal practice commonly used to make it difficult to identify stolen vehicles. The authorities identified that the businesses operated without the proper authorization.

One of the junkyards, located in Vilatur, presented an alarming scenario: a yard with hundreds of car shells, engines, automotive gas cylinders and even ruins of a luxury boat. All the material was on packed earth, which put the soil at risk of environmental contamination.

The operation aimed to combat the irregular trade of parts and protect the environment, in addition to curbing criminal practices related to the illegal dismantling of vehicles.
