Supreme Court minister André Mendonça removed the Federal Police director-general, Andrei Rodrigues, following a request signed by two lawyers and candidates for federal deputies from the New Party: Carolina Siebra, from Ceará, and Carolina Sponza, from Rio de Janeiro. The candidates used the favorable decision to promote themselves electorally on social media.
Siebra celebrated the decision on her profile, stating that the request was made by her and that the team was "very happy" celebrating the removal. Sponza wrote that "I and the New Party removed Andrei," appropriating the judicial decision for campaign purposes.
Mendonça's decision was reversed on Thursday by fellow Supreme Court minister Flávio Dino, who reinstated Andrei Rodrigues to the position. Dino considered the New Party's "active illegitimacy" to request the precautionary measure to be "unequivocal," especially in the context of the electoral period.
The argument addressed a recurso presented by Andrei Rodrigues, who argued he was not part of the process and challenged the party's legitimacy to request the removal.
