Aveiro: PS Proposal for the Valorisation of Traditional Commerce Scheduled

The public meeting of Aveiro's municipal executive scheduled for this Thursday includes on its agenda a PS proposal to move forward with a municipal strategy for the valorisation, protection, and revitalisation of traditional, historic, and local commerce.

The socialist elected members decided to prepare this proposal following political interventions in the municipal bodies about the difficulties experienced in commercial activity, with several historic establishments closing in recent months. The document, which already has around one hundred pages, presents almost thirty action measures, including the creation of a database of municipal shops available to members.

The proposal suggests that the work begin with the drafting of a regulation and the Merchant's Charter, also carrying out a current characterisation of the activity. The parties Livre and Iniciativa Liberal, which have representation in the Municipal Assembly, were involved in the elaboration of the proposal, in addition to associative representatives from commerce and specialists in the area.

According to councillor Rui Castilho, the proposal is not closed and anticipates having the adhesion of the municipal majority with its approval, arguing that it is important for everyone.

Association asks Supreme Court to guarantee extra benefit for retired judges and pensioners

The National Association of State Magistrates (Anamages) filed a motion with the Supreme Federal Court asking that the payment of the "Career Seniority Value Portion" (PVTAC) be guaranteed to retired judges and pensioners. The entity argues that the STF recognized the right to this indemnification payment during a trial in March, but that an error in the drafting of the ruling did not expressly include this group. The PVTAC is a 5% additional on salary for every five years of legal activity, which can reach up to 35% of the salary, and was approved by the Plenary as an indemnification payment for magistrates and members of the Public Ministry. The motion was sent to Justice Flávio Dino, the rapporteur of the case.

Supports "never" are sufficient to mitigate the increase in cost of living

The Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, Castro Almeida, stated that the supports announced by the Government "never" will be sufficient to mitigate the increase in the cost of living, at a time when Portugal is affected by several "wars". The official stated that no country with balanced accounts has enough money to support a war situation, although the country is not at war but suffering its consequences. When asked whether the reduction of IRS up to the 6th bracket and the bonus for pensioners would be sufficient, Castro Almeida highlighted that, despite the Budget having been presented without a budget surplus, the Finance Minister came to reveal that there will be a positive surplus that allows allocating an additional 800 million euros of public expenditure. The minister also responded to PS's criticisms, guaranteeing that the State "is not profiting from the war", explaining that the increase in VAT revenue is being offset by the reduction of ISP.
