"Even if he commits another set of blunders and the price of oil keeps rising, there is a kind of tribe that won't let go" by Trump

CNN Portugal9 September 2026 at 19:06

Lieutenant General Rafael Martins was on CNN Central to analyze the phenomenon of the so-called "following" of Donald Trump's electorate. During his intervention, he commented on the almost unshakeable relationship that a significant part of Trump's supporters maintain with the former US president, regardless of the controversies or decisions he makes.

Martins referred to this support base as a "kind of tribe" that does not move away from the former president, even when he makes mistakes or when the price of oil rises, situations that would normally be politically penalizing. This extreme loyalty has been one of the most striking characteristics of the Trumpist base in the United States.

The Brazilian military officer's analysis seeks to understand the reasons why a portion of the electorate maintains such a strong connection to Trump, in a phenomenon that transcends traditional political issues and is based on dynamics of personal identification and almost unconditional loyalty.

Association asks Supreme Court to guarantee extra benefit for retired judges and pensioners

The National Association of State Magistrates (Anamages) filed a motion with the Supreme Federal Court asking that the payment of the "Career Seniority Value Portion" (PVTAC) be guaranteed to retired judges and pensioners. The entity argues that the STF recognized the right to this indemnification payment during a trial in March, but that an error in the drafting of the ruling did not expressly include this group. The PVTAC is a 5% additional on salary for every five years of legal activity, which can reach up to 35% of the salary, and was approved by the Plenary as an indemnification payment for magistrates and members of the Public Ministry. The motion was sent to Justice Flávio Dino, the rapporteur of the case.

Supports "never" are sufficient to mitigate the increase in cost of living

The Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, Castro Almeida, stated that the supports announced by the Government "never" will be sufficient to mitigate the increase in the cost of living, at a time when Portugal is affected by several "wars". The official stated that no country with balanced accounts has enough money to support a war situation, although the country is not at war but suffering its consequences. When asked whether the reduction of IRS up to the 6th bracket and the bonus for pensioners would be sufficient, Castro Almeida highlighted that, despite the Budget having been presented without a budget surplus, the Finance Minister came to reveal that there will be a positive surplus that allows allocating an additional 800 million euros of public expenditure. The minister also responded to PS's criticisms, guaranteeing that the State "is not profiting from the war", explaining that the increase in VAT revenue is being offset by the reduction of ISP.
