Clemens Jungsthöfel, chief executive officer of German reinsurer Hannover Re, is the new president of Insurance Europe's Reinsurance Advisory Board (RAB) for the 2026-2027 term. Philippe Meyenhofer, leader of PartnerRe, holds the position of vice-president. The duo replaces the outgoing management led by Thomas Blunck, from Munich Re.
The appointment follows Jungsthöfel having served as vice-president under Blunck. The new leadership takes office at the start of a work plan focused on facilitating market access and strengthening the sector's representation before European regulators.
Jungsthöfel described reinsurers as essential "financial shock absorbers" for economic resilience in a context of global uncertainty. Meyenhofer emphasized the need to address operational challenges affecting risk transfer internationally.
The RAB brings together presidential and executive management representatives from the seven largest global reinsurers: Gen Re, Hannover Re, Lloyd's, Munich Re, PartnerRe, SCOR and Swiss Re. Jungsthöfel has led Hannover Re since April 2025, after serving as the company's chief financial officer for five years, and brings prior experience at KPMG and HDI Global. Meyenhofer has led PartnerRe since 2024, having held various leadership positions in specialized lines and property and casualty insurance.
