Foods become more expensive again: basket already costs 255 euros and some products rose more than 20% in one week

SAPO Notícias9 September 2026 at 17:41

Food prices rose again in Portugal, with the basic basket reaching 255 euros. Several products recorded significant increases, with some becoming more expensive by more than 20% in just one week.

Among the foods that have become most expensive recently are horse mackerel, zucchini and tuna in olive oil. These increases represent an additional burden for Portuguese families who were already facing pressure on their household budgets.

When compared to 2022 values, some foods show increases of more than 100%, reflecting a trend of continuous price growth in the food sector in recent years.
