The Environment Minister stated that the water intake that EDP claims in Sines is "state property". This declaration comes in the context of a dispute over the management of this water resource.
About two months ago, EDP filed a precautionary injunction in court, questioning the transfer of the water intake to the management of Águas de Santo André. The company intends to maintain control over this infrastructure.
The water intake in question is located at S. Torpes, in the municipality of Sines. This infrastructure was used to cool the thermoelectric plant operated by EDP in that region.
The conflict thus opposes the electric company EDP to the Portuguese State, represented by the Ministry of Environment, regarding the ownership and management of this water intake infrastructure.
