The Portuguese Government is studying the possibility of bringing water from the Castelo de Bode reservoir to the south bank of the Tagus, in order to reduce dependence on the Tagus-Sado aquifer. This solution comes in the context of growing concern about the region's water sustainability.
The Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente (APA) and Águas de Portugal have been given 120 days to present a technical solution that allows this objective of reducing dependence on the Tagus-Sado aquifer to be achieved.
Castelo de Bode is one of the main water reserves in the region, and its use for supplying the south bank could represent a significant alternative to the use of the underground aquifer, contributing to its long-term preservation.
