The parents of a 15-year-old student are asking for compensation of almost half a million euros for their son's death, which occurred following an accident at a school in Leiria. The boy died after a goalpost that was not properly secured fell during a physical education class.
The lawsuit was filed against the State, which is responsible for managing public educational institutions. The compensation requested amounts to approximately 400,000 euros and aims to compensate for the moral and psychological damages suffered by the family.
The accident happened during a sporting activity in the physical education class, when the metal structure of the goalpost fell on the student. School authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
The case is being tried, with the family demanding that the State assume responsibility for not having ensured the necessary safety conditions in the school's sports facilities.
