20 minutes: complaints against AIMA surged this year, over 100 thousand filed in courts

SIC Notícias9 September 2026 at 15:49

Complaints against AIMA, the agency for integration, migration and asylum, surged this year. Over 100 thousand complaints were filed in courts, a significantly high number that highlights problems in the functioning of the body responsible for migratory management in Portugal.

This situation led the government to announce the creation of specialized courts to speed up the resolution of pending cases. The measure comes as a response to the judicial overload caused by the massive volume of complaints against the agency.

The 20 Minutos article highlights that the increase in complaints against AIMA represents a significant challenge for the Portuguese judicial system, which now faces the need to address a high number of processes related to migratory issues.
