Radiology technician Larissa Cruz Morata, 29, was found dead with a gunshot to the head in the bathroom of the house where she lived with her husband, Military Police officer Vinícius Costa Silva, 26, on Sunday morning (6), in Embu das Artes, in Greater São Paulo. The autopsy report identified at least 14 marks similar to bruises distributed across the victim's body.
The police officer was arrested on Monday (7) during Larissa's funeral. He underwent a custody hearing and had his temporary detention upheld, remaining held at the Romão Gomes Military Prison, in the North Zone of the capital.
Vinícius denies the crime and maintains that she took her own life. The police officer's defense presented conversations between Larissa and his family members that mention a crisis in the marriage, including text messages and audio recordings in which she reported being emotionally distressed and said she wanted to die.
The suicide hypothesis, however, was ruled out by police after the initial forensic examinations performed at the crime scene.
