Brazil was included among the fastest-growing biomethane markets in the world, according to the international survey "From Waste to Wheels - Turning organic waste into renewable fuel for transport," commissioned by the MBCBrasil Institute. The country appears alongside the United States, China, India, Spain, Ireland, Austria, and Belgium as one of the markets in accelerated growth.
The study mapped the advancement of biomethane in approximately 40 countries, identifying that nearly 30 markets already use it in transportation and more than 12 have placed it on a commercial scale. On the other side of the spectrum, among the already consolidated markets are Sweden, Germany, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Norway, and the American state of California, where 97% of the gaseous fuel used on roads is already biomethane.
Each market arrived at biomethane adoption through a different path. Europe has 1,678 biomethane plants in operation and more than 100,000 industrial installations that can be adapted to the fuel. China, on the other hand, has a natural gas network of 260,000 kilometers.
