Lula requests suspension of police officials' removal

Observador9 September 2026 at 15:21

President Lula asked for the suspension of the removal of the Federal Police directors. The request was made regarding the decision that removed from their positions the corporation's director-general and the Intelligence director.

The removal was determined by Judge André Mendonça, who serves on the Supreme Federal Court. According to the magistrate, the two directors were targets of "systematic monitoring" and "illicit" activity, which motivated the decision to remove them from their duties.

The suspension requested by Lula seeks to reverse the judicial measure that removed the directors from their respective positions at the Federal Police. The episode occurs amid tensions between the Executive and Judicial branches over the control and autonomy of the police corporation.

The president of Portalegre City Council, Fermelinda Carvalho, revealed she is following the reorganization process of the Oncology Unit at Dr. José Maria Grande Hospital, expressing willingness to meet with patients and the administration of the Local Health Unit (ULS) of Alto Alentejo. The mayor considered the case "delicate" and asked for management "with kid gloves," underscoring that she wants patients to be satisfied with the solution found. The ULS of Alto Alentejo rejected any reduction in oncology services, guaranteeing that the service will be reinforced with more human resources and better infrastructure. The PCP demanded clarifications, considering the ULS explanations inconsistent, while the PS questioned the Government about the planned changes, through a parliamentary question addressed to the Minister of Health.
