The president of Portalegre City Council, Fermelinda Carvalho, said she is following the reorganization process of the Oncology Unit at Dr. José Maria Grande Hospital, expressing willingness to meet with patients and the administration of the Local Health Unit (ULS) of Alto Alentejo. The mayor considered the case "delicate" and that it should be managed "with kid gloves" until finding a solution that satisfies all parties.
The ULS of Alto Alentejo rejected any interpretation that points to a decrease in care for patients at the Oncology Unit, guaranteeing that the service will be reinforced. According to the board of directors, measures are being prepared for the reinforcement and development of care provision, including the reinforcement of differentiated human resources and improvements in infrastructure.
The PCP demanded clarifications about the reorganization, considering the ULS explanations "increasingly inconsistent." According to the party, the consultation period provided by the current oncologist has been reduced to about half of the activity they carried out until August, contradicting the administration's guarantees.
The PS also questioned the Government about the planned changes at the Oncology Unit, through a question signed by seven deputies addressed to the Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins. The District Federation of Portalegre of the PS also warned of a possible restructuring of the service.
