The Embassy of Brazil in Lisbon celebrated the 204th anniversary of Brazil's Independence with a reception that brought together Portuguese and Brazilian authorities, including former President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. Ambassador Raimundo Carreiro took the occasion to take stock of his four years of diplomatic mission, highlighting the continuous bilateral rapprochement between the two countries, evidenced by intense political dialogue, the expansion of economic ties, and the growing presence of the Brazilian community in Portugal, which already represents approximately 5% of the Portuguese population. Carreiro also emphasized Portugal's role in concluding the trade agreement between Mercosur and the European Union, which creates an economic area of approximately 720 million people, and mentioned upcoming diplomatic challenges, including Brazil's general elections in October, in which approximately 135,000 Brazilian voters in Portugal will be eligible to vote.
