Jornal Notícias da Covilhã9 September 2026 at 15:01

The Historic Center of Covilhã hosts between November 17 and 20 the 19th edition of the Cherovia Festival, organized by the Cultural Association Desertuna, Banda da Covilhã and Covilhã Eventos, in partnership with the City Council of Covilhã and with the support of INATEL Foundation and Telepark. The event takes place in the area behind the City Hall, between the streets near the Church of Santa Maria and Portas do Sol.

Over four days, the festival brings together gastronomy, local producers, artisans, music and the community, combining tradition and new experiences. The program includes tasquinhas, showcookings, tastings and the Cherovia Gastronomic Contest. Saturday will be dedicated to the celebration of traditions and party, while Sunday is dedicated to families, with a partnership with the Remy Project as one of the new features of this edition.

The organization expects to reach the mark of 50,000 visitors. On Saturday night, free shuttle bus transport will be available between the Sports Complex of Covilhã and the gates of the festival. Due to the event in the old town, there will be traffic restrictions on several streets starting at 6 PM on Thursday and Friday, and starting at noon on Saturday and Sunday.

The organization also calls on residents to decorate their doors, garages or windows, in an initiative that aims to promote local identity and revitalize this area of the city.
