The "Promessa" brand picanha has become a symbol of the 2026 electoral campaign in Brazil. The Brazilian right uses the rise in the price of meat to attack one of Lula's most popular promises. During the last presidential campaign, the then candidate promised to put "picanha" on the table of the Brazilian people, but the price of this noble cut of beef has increased significantly.
President Lula responds with data showing an improvement in inflation, trying to demonstrate that the economy is recovering. However, part of the electorate claims not to feel this improvement when shopping at the supermarket, where prices remain high.
The right uses this situation as an electoral boomerang against Lula, transforming the unfulfilled picanha promise into one of the main arguments of its opposition for the upcoming elections. The meat dish has thus become a political battlefield that can influence the outcome of the race for re-election of the Brazilian President.
