The Olhãopesca cooperative denounced the illegal capture and sale of clams during the closed season in the Algarve. The organization alerted to this illegal practice that is occurring in the region during the season when fishing this species should be prohibited.
The closed season for clams runs until October 15, inclusive, during which the capture and commercialization of this species are prohibited by law. The cooperative emphasized the need to respect this restriction to guarantee the sustainability of the species.
The Olhãopesca called for urgent inspection on several beaches in the region, namely in Vila Real de Santo António, Monte Gordo, Tavira and Olhão. The cooperative considers the presence of authorities essential to stop these illegal practices.
