The president of the Portuguese Medical Association, Carlos Cortes, today defended the need to implement differentiated measures to retain health professionals in regions such as the Alentejo Coast. These measures aim to address the severe gaps in primary healthcare services in that region.
Approximately 30% of the population of the Alentejo Coast does not have adequate coverage in primary healthcare, which represents a significant problem of access to health for residents in that area of the country.
Carlos Cortes noted that inland regions and the Alentejo coast face persistent difficulties in attracting and retaining doctors, and that a specific plan is needed that goes beyond the generic measures applied nationally.
