The Portuguese government confirmed the granting of a new extraordinary supplement to over two million pensioners, which will be paid together with the December pension. The measure was announced by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro during the debate on the censure motion submitted by Chega in the Assembly of the Republic on 8 October.

The supplement will be granted progressively to pensioners with pensions up to 1,611.13 euros, representing an estimated expenditure of around 400 million euros. Payment is scheduled for December and will be made together with that month's pension, so the beneficiaries covered will receive an additional amount at that time.

The government has not yet revealed the specific amounts or the brackets that will apply to each pensioner. Luís Montenegro only stated that the measure will be progressive, which indicates that the support amount should vary depending on the pension received. The access conditions and the way the supplement will be processed are also expected to be detailed in the future.

The Prime Minister guaranteed that the decision is made and that the measure will be implemented at the next Council of Ministers meeting, when more details about the amounts and applicable rules are expected to be known. In addition to this support for pensioners, the government also announced a new IRS reduction up to the 6th bracket, with an estimated impact of another 400 million euros.
