Daniel Candeias announced his retirement from football at the age of 38, after representing Académica last season. The striker, from Fornos de Algodres, thus ended a career spanning nearly two decades in professional football.
Born at Fornos de Algodres, he moved to FC Porto at just 14 years old. His senior debut came in the 2007/08 season with Varzim in the II Liga, taking his first steps in a career that would take him to several clubs.
Throughout his career, Daniel Candeias represented several clubs, accumulating experience both in Portugal and abroad. His time at Académica last season was his farewell to competitive football.
At 38, the player thus closes an important chapter of his sporting life, leaving behind a legacy that began on the training grounds of the Guarda district and took him to the main stages of Portuguese and international football.
