Three cities in PI have emergency situation recognized due to drought and dry spell

Portal O Dia9 September 2026 at 09:58

Three cities in Piauí had their emergency situation recognized by the federal government due to the drought and dry spell affecting the region. The recognition was published in the Official Gazette of the Union on Wednesday, the 9th.

With this measure, the affected municipalities are authorized to request federal resources for response actions to the effects of the dry spell and for assistance to the population impacted by the scarcity of rain.

The publication in the Official Gazette formalizes the emergency status, allowing city halls to access emergency funds intended to mitigate the damages caused by the drought in the region.

This decision occurs in a context of drought that has been affecting various regions of the state of Piauí, especially compromising family farming and the water supply for the rural population.
