Photos of the same point allowed documenting the complete drying of a stretch of the Rio da Prata, located in Jardim, Mato Grosso do Sul. The images show that the river water reduced until disappearing in just four days, between the last week of August and the first week of September, leaving the location occupied by dry branches and earth.
The drought impacting the region was the cause of the water's disappearance in this stretch of the river. With the drastic reduction in water level, about 200 fish were trapped in small puddles formed at the location, facing risk of death.
An emergency rescue action was carried out by the Instituto Guarda Mirim Ambiental (IGMA) and by the Instituto Amigos do Rio da Prata. The animals were transferred to a deeper stretch of the river, where the water flow remains normal, on Friday (4).
The first photo was recorded on August 27 by the coordinator of IGMA, Nisroque Soares, who documented the evolution of the stretch until its complete drying.
