Apple website goes down before iPhone launch; see what to expect

oglobo9 September 2026 at 13:00

Apple took its online store offline shortly before the start of an event scheduled for 2 PM, Brasília time, where it is expected to unveil its new iPhones. When trying to access the shopping area of the site, consumers find a notice indicating that the store is temporarily unavailable while the company performs updates.

The interruption is a traditional move by Apple, which usually takes the store offline a few hours before presentations to prepare the catalog for new products, which then appear on the site after the event. Wednesday's move heightens expectations for the event, which takes place directly from Apple Park, in Cupertino, United States.

The presentation will be themed "Surprise and Shine," as announced by Apple itself, and will be the first major product presentation led by the company's new CEO.

Australians 'escape' the algorithm: Government wants to force social media to allow users to disable suggested content

The Australian government is preparing legislation that will force social media platforms to offer users the option to disable algorithm-suggested content, allowing an "algorithm-free" experience. This measure comes two years after Australia limited social media access for minors under 18, and is part of a broader strategy to hold digital platforms accountable for dangerous and violent content. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese argued that people should have the right to choose how they navigate social media, without interference from algorithms that direct content.
