The Funchal City Council is participating in the 8th National Urban Cleaning Meeting, which has been taking place in Guimarães since yesterday and continues until tomorrow. The event, called ENLU 2026, brings together professionals and officials from various municipalities across the country to discuss issues related to urban cleaning.
This year's theme is "The Invisible Service," a topic that aims to highlight the work that is often ignored by citizens. Urban cleaning is a service that only becomes visible when it fails, because when it works correctly, public spaces are simply clean and streets are in adequate conditions.
The meeting thus seeks to recognize the effort behind the maintenance of urban spaces, an effort that goes unnoticed when everything works as expected. The event brings together residents, workers, and visitors as indirect beneficiaries of this continuous cleaning work.
