Hundreds of athletes participating in the Asian Games in Japan needed to be temporarily removed from their accommodations after record rains hit Nagoya, one of the host cities of the competition. The episode occurred just days before the official opening of the event, scheduled for September 19.
On Tuesday, Nagoya recorded 104 millimeters of rain, a volume that led local authorities to issue an evacuation order. The affected athletes were staying in temporary wooden structures installed in the Garden Pier area.
According to a port official consulted by the AFP news agency, the competitors remained outside the accommodations for about two hours before being allowed to return.
The situation draws attention to the structure set up to host the approximately 17,000 athletes expected at the Asian Games, an event that brings together competitors from various Asian countries.
