A Florida couple nearly died after being struck by lightning while walking hand-in-hand along an isolated trail in Winter Garden on September 2. Aaron Walenga, 48, and Clare Walenga, 43, were found unconscious by three people passing by who called emergency services. According to information released by American station WESH, Clare was not breathing when the improvised rescuers began cardiopulmonary resuscitation, guided by phone during the call to 911.
According to the Winter Garden Police Department report, Aaron remembered holding his wife's hand before the two were struck by the electrical discharge. The couple was walking while their three children were participating in a church youth group. A campaign was created to support the family during their recovery.
