"It's getting harder and harder": Motorcyclist indignant over fuel price rises

Correio da Manhã9 September 2026 at 11:00

A motorcyclist expressed his indignation to CMTV regarding the constant rise in fuel prices. The man stated that it is increasingly difficult to bear the costs associated with using his motorcycle, highlighting the significant impact that rising fuel prices have on his daily life.

The interviewee lamented the successive increases that have been occurring in fuel prices, considering the current situation unsustainable for consumers. His frustration reflects the sentiment of many Portuguese people who depend on their vehicles to get around.

Faced with this reality, the motorcyclist called for intervention from the Portuguese State to stop or mitigate these increases. He argued that the government should take measures to protect citizens from the economic consequences of these growing costs.

The situation illustrates the difficulties faced by drivers in Portugal, in a context of financial pressure on Portuguese families.

Portugal's financing costs soar to highs at 1.6 billion euro debt auction

Portugal saw public financing costs soar to highs in recent debt auctions, with the Treasury and Public Debt Management Agency (IGCP) placing €1.628 billion through three Treasury Bond issuances, registering a generalized rise in interest rates across all maturities — at nine years yields rose to 3.632%, at eight years to 3.559% and at four years to 3.122%. The trend reflects a volatile global scenario driven by the Middle East conflict, prospects of further interest rate hikes by the ECB and the impact of the war in Ukraine on fuel and grain prices, with Portuguese debt yields reaching their highest value since April 2017. Analysts consider that fiscal risks, persistent inflation and growing financing needs will continue to pressure risk premiums, although Eurozone peripheral spreads should remain stabilized, in contrast to the vulnerability shown by France.
