Joaquim Miranda Sarmento guaranteed that the measures announced by Luís Montenegro will not unbalance Portuguese public accounts. In an interview with SIC Notícias, the government official stated that, barring some cataclysm, public accounts will remain balanced.
Sarmento also stated that public debt will continue to decline during the current government's term. The Finance minister even admitted the possibility of a slight budget surplus.
The interview with SIC Notícias comes at a time when the executive is seeking to demonstrate confidence in the sustainability of public finances, despite the fiscal and economic measures implemented in recent months.
This guarantee comes following the announcement of new measures by the prime minister, which had raised doubts about the impact on public accounts.
