The Portuguese José Mourinho, coach of Inter Milan, contested the attribution of the best on field (MVP) title to Federico Valverde in the match between Real Madrid and Inter Milan, held at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. Mourinho considered that goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois should have been chosen for the best player award of the match.
The game ended with Real Madrid's 2-1 victory over Inter. Despite the Italian team's defeat, Mourinho did not agree with the organizers' decision to award the best on field prize to Real Madrid's Uruguayan midfielder, Federico Valverde.
The Inter coach defended that Courtois was decisive for the final result, suggesting that his contribution was more relevant than Valverde's. This opinion from Mourinho arose after an evenly matched game at the Bernabéu, where Real Madrid managed to secure the three points.
