Sánchez classifies as "hybrid attack" the entry of migrants in Ceuta without pointing to Rabat and will reinforce the border

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General9 September 2026 at 10:49

Pedro Sánchez classified as a "hybrid attack" the massive entry of around 72,000 migrants in Ceuta on July 30 and 31. The Spanish prime minister made this declaration in an interview on TVE, without yet having reached the concrete causes of what happened.

During the interview, Sánchez once again exempted Morocco from responsibility, although without ruling anything out. The official argued that the Executive must act "based on evidence, not on indications, with responsibility and proportionality".

Sánchez assured that this approach is not incompatible with firmness, warning that "this government never accepts any blackmail". As examples, he cited the positions facing the United States to reject the 5%, the war in Iran and Israel's position regarding the "genocide" in Gaza.

The Spanish government will reinforce the border in Ceuta as a response to this situation, in a context of diplomatic tension following the migration crisis that overwhelmed the Spanish autonomous city during those two days.
