The Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Coimbra and Águas de Coimbra celebrated a cooperation protocol with the objective of strengthening the link between higher education, the business sector and the challenges of sustainable development of the region. The partnership was formalized by the president of ISEC, Nuno Martins, and by the president of the board of directors of Águas de Coimbra, Pedro Geirinhas.
The protocol is based on four main pillars: training, integration of students in the job market, specialized consultancy, and research and development. Among the measures planned is the creation of the Águas de Coimbra Prize, intended to distinguish the best student of the master's degrees in Civil Engineering and in Sustainable and Smart Cities of ISEC.
The cooperation foresees the carrying out of curricular internships at the end of undergraduate studies, dissertations and master's internships in the different areas of activity of the municipal company, allowing students to complement academic training with professional experience. Águas de Coimbra may also resort to specialized technical consultancy from ISEC in scientific areas relevant to meet operational needs of the company.
The two institutions also intend to submit joint applications for national and international research and development projects, promoting the creation and transfer of knowledge and the development of solutions for the water sector. The protocol also contemplates the participation of technicians from Águas de Coimbra in classes, lectures and seminars at ISEC, as well as collaboration in defining professional profiles adjusted to the future needs of the company.
