Portuguese family consumption levels resist the Iran war shock in the first half of the year

Now9 September 2026 at 11:37

Portuguese family consumption levels resisted the Iran war shock during the first half of the year, according to an indicator that has contradicted slowdown forecasts. The prolonged uncertainty scenario and rising inflation did not negatively impact consumer behavior as expected. This surprising performance occurs in a period marked by geopolitical tensions related to the Iran conflict. The resistance of the consumption indicator suggests an unexpected resilience of the Portuguese domestic economy in the face of adverse external factors.

The deadline for considering a payment overdue has been reduced. Find out what changes

An amendment to the Law on Commitments and Late Payments came into force in Portugal, significantly reducing the deadline for considering a payment overdue. Previously, invoices were considered overdue after 90 days; now, the deadline has been reduced to 30 days (or 60 days in the case of public health entities) from the date of receipt of the invoice or provision of services. From these new deadlines, creditors are automatically entitled to default interest, without the need for formal notice, with the interest rate being defined by the Commercial Code. The amendments also include new rules for available funds derived from programs financed by European funds, changing the way available funds are calculated at very short term.
