Rodri called Gayà to apologize for his words about Valencia CF

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General9 September 2026 at 10:33

Rodri Hernández had an honorable gesture in the hours following the Valencia-FC Barcelona match last Sunday. The player called Gayà to apologize for the words he said about Valencia CF.

Rodri was caught by the cameras of Movistar+'s program 'El Día Después' while talking on the field with Pau Cubarsí. In the images, the Manchester City player said about his rivals that "they are very bad..."

This comment generated controversy and led to Rodri needing to contact Gayà directly, a Valencia player, to offer his apologies. The Spanish midfielder's gesture was seen as an attempt to make amends for what was said.

The game in question pitted Valencia against FC Barcelona, and Rodri's words were captured during the match, later being broadcast on Movistar+'s sports program.

Arnau Ortiz, 24-year-old Spanish striker from Atlético de Madrid, is suspended for the team's Champions League debut against Liverpool on Wednesday at Anfield, due to a red card received in August 2024, when he was still playing for Śląsk Wrocław in Poland. The dismissal happened during the second leg of the third preliminary round of the Europa Conference League against St. Gallen, resulting in a one-match suspension in UEFA competitions. Since Ortiz hasn't played in any UEFA European competition since then, the punishment remained pending and will now be served at the first opportunity for the player to participate in the Champions League, as the sanction applies to all UEFA-organized club competitions.
